Yumi has been in the spotlight from a young age. When she was just three, Yumi began doing commercials and at age eight began to have minor roles in various dramas. In 1993, when Yumi was 12, she began her music career and released until 1998. When she was 13, she was in the television drama Ie nakiko. From then on, Yumi became a full-fledged child star.

The year 1999 marked Yumi’s entrance into the gravure world, and she released a handful of photobooks and DVDs. AV companies even tried to persuade Yumi to become an AV star, but she always turned them down. Seeing as she has not released anything in this genre of entertainment since 2004 (and due to her pregnancy, scroll down), it can be assumed she is no longer in this business.

A marriage interview was held between Yumi and comedian Itoda Jun on September 14th, 2005, also Yumi’s 24th birthday. The marriage was due to Yumi’s pregnancy; at this time she was two months pregnant. The two were married November 13th, 2005 in Tokyo. In December Yumi went on maternity leave to prepare for the baby, and a girl was born on April 12th. Her name is unknown at this time.

Recent reports suggest the marriage is already on the rocks. Friday’s last April issue showed a picture of Jun entering a hotel with his ex-girlfriend, but Jun’s publicist states it was only to talk and Yumi had already known.
